This book, published to coincide with Max Lamb's exhibition “Exercises in Seating 3” held in October 2025, completes a trilogy following “Exercises in Seating 1.2”, adding over thirty chairs crafted from diverse materials over the past decade. ‘Exercises in Seating’ was the title used by Max for his 2006 Royal College of Art graduation exhibition, and the established concept was first exhibited in 2016. The various chairs arranged in a circle stem from his curiosity about materials and his relentless experimental exploration; each is unique, possessing a distinct character. This book was designed by the London-based graphic design collective Åbäke, with contributions from designer Tom Dixon and editors Laura Houseley and Sarah Simpkin.

This collection builds upon “Un Nari”, a previous series by Siin Siin presented as architectural hardware such as doorknobs and shelf handles. “Un Nari“ introduced organic, creature-like qualities to architectural details, treating them as autonomous objects rather than mere functional elements. In Un Sua, this autonomy is further emphasised, allowing the objects to exist independently as jewellery and other forms while maintaining a connection to architecture through magnetic attachment.

A table lamp designed by Koichi Futamata, focusing on the simple, anonymous beauty of the traditional glass ball bulb. Boldly incorporating the bulb into the fixture's form while deliberately leaving only the “upper half” exposed, the design possesses a sculptural presence despite its simplicity. Mr Futamata believes that ideal lighting within living spaces consists of “local lights” scattered as needed. In his design projects for residences and other buildings, he has collaboratively developed bespoke bracket lighting with lighting designers based on this philosophy. This lighting has been redesigned to make its concept more accessible, and with the included LED-specific lamp, it allows for precise dimming, enabling soft light to be incorporated into various settings. By deliberately opting for a mains-powered design rather than rechargeable, this lighting can be used for an extended period through the replacement of bulbs.

This book was published in conjunction with the exhibition ‘Obsession’ by Korean artist/designer Lee Kwango, held in Tokyo in 2024. Influenced by his grandfather, who ran a farm and handmade everyday items from readily available materials, Lee Kwango embodies organic forms in his works using commonplace materials such as rope, polyvinyl chloride, and iron.
